Cathedral Mountain (6,800 feet) is one of my favorites. This photo, used in River Road Vistas, was taken from Calamity Creek bridge, 20.6 miles south of Alpine.
The main body is capped by a basalt bed, 545 feet thick, overlying 450 feet of light-colored Tascotal Formation volcaniclastic material, i.e. sedimentary rock made up of particles of volcanic derivation.
The spire, known as Haleys Peak, has been uplifted about 400 feet by an intrusion that came in at the base of the mountain.
